myLot Discussions on Les Paul Electric Guitars| Les Paul, Innovator, Inventor... RIP | | The solid body electric guitar and multi track recording. Can anyone, musician or techie be said to have influenced modern music more than Les Paul? From his "Log" in the 30s to the latest in almost every genre of music there is, no name can be attributed to like his. His innovations in design, technology and playing brought the guitar from the shadows of the rhythm section to stealing the show. Delay, phase, and most other distortion and effects can be traced back to his influences. He didn't keep all that savvy to himself either. He taught his craft, playing techniques and technology to others. Les Paul died, but nothing about his life is gone... thanks to his own inventions and innovations. | |

| | strats versus les paul | | I heard this conversation on an unlikely radio talk show yesterday.I've owned both guitars and currently still own a Stratocaster.the Strat is harder to master, but gives a unique sound, best evoked I think by Mark Knopfler's work. Heavier player swho really mad e the strat their own include Ritchie Blackmore and Rory Gallagher. The Les Paul gives gutsier, meatier sound, Jimmy Page used one, I kind of think that Les Pauls sound all the same, whereas, the Strat allows you to create your own sound. I'm sure that others have opposite opinions | |
