Les Paul, Innovator, Inventor... RIP
The solid body electric guitar and multi track recording. Can anyone, musician or techie be said to have influenced modern music more than Les Paul? From his "Log" in the 30s to the latest in almost every genre of music there is, no name can be attributed to like his. His innovations in design, technology and playing brought the guitar from the shadows of the rhythm section to stealing the show. Delay, phase, and most other distortion and effects can be traced back to his influences. He didn't keep all that savvy to himself either. He taught his craft, playing techniques and technology to others. Les Paul died, but nothing about his life is gone... thanks to his own inventions and innovations.
Les Paul dead at 94
Just heard that Les Paul died today, at the age of 94. He had pneumonia. He was responsible for many innovations in the recording industry, including multi-tracking and the solid body electric guitar which bears his name. You can read more about him here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090813/ts_nm/us_paul_4 His Wikapedia page has already been updated to reflect his death.
RIP Les Paul
Yet another musical legend has died today, Les Paul passed away:(http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090813/ap_en_mu/us_obit_les_paulWHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Les Paul, who pioneered the solid-body electric guitar later wielded by a legion of rock 'n' roll greats, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia. He was 94. According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side. As an inventor, Paul also helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll with multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the tracks in the finished recording. The use of electric-amplified guitars gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1940s, and then exploded with the advent of rock in the mid-'50s."Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music," Paul once said. "To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system.""Without Les Paul, we would not have rock...
Les Paul, Father Of Electric Guitar, Dead At Age 94
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/6023419/Electric-guitar-innovator-Les-Paul-dies.htmlLes Paul was also responsible for the use of multi-tracking when recording. This innovative musician will be missed by many.He was still performing recently before his death from complications of pneumonia.RIP Les.A TRUE "Guitar Hero".Are you saddened when you hear about the death of someone you consider an icon?
Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster? Which is your favorite? Why?
If you're a guitar player, you know that people always have a fight between the two big dogs, Gibson Les Paul and Fender Strat. Let's hear what you think about each. Do you own one or the other? Share your thoughts! Tell us why either or is best in your opinion!
wanting a cheap les paul style guitar? any companys to look for?
ive been playing guitar for a few years now and ive been wanting a les paul style guitar preferably black i was realy looking for one which i could basicaly take apart and put my own parts in so it could suit me so a cheap one would be nice but also that doesnt play too bad either or if anybody has an old les paul they would like to sell i will take offers?
strats versus les paul
I heard this conversation on an unlikely radio talk show yesterday.I've owned both guitars and currently still own a Stratocaster.the Strat is harder to master, but gives a unique sound, best evoked I think by Mark Knopfler's work. Heavier player swho really mad e the strat their own include Ritchie Blackmore and Rory Gallagher. The Les Paul gives gutsier, meatier sound, Jimmy Page used one, I kind of think that Les Pauls sound all the same, whereas, the Strat allows you to create your own sound. I'm sure that others have opposite opinions
Epiphone les paul
Hello i have purchased a epiphone les paul last month and i am a left handed guitarist. in my opinion it could be better and i give it a 8/10. if anyone has heard of it or has it post your opinion here!
